The word vintage can have many meanings. It's broadest definition would be anything older than yourself. However generally vintage clothing is taken to be pre-1980s, and true vintage dates back from the early 1960s before mass-production really took off and an increasing amount of synthetic fabrics were used, but the 1970s and 1980s still produced some fantastic vintage pieces and copies from all eras have been seen on the modern catwalks.
Rebecca Jade's specialises in high quality, wearable and affordable vintage clothes, handbags and accessories dating from the 1940s to the 1980s as well as some earlier items. Each piece is handpicked, washed and steamed ready for you to wear - no musty vintage here!
In terms of fashion vintage represents individuality and uniqueness - some of the most beautiful dresses I have ever seen have been vintage pieces. Some of the classic 1940s and 1950s dresses are beautifully tailored, expertly handsewn in gorgeous fabrics with proper linings and hems and have lasted over half a century, a quality that their modern counterparts often lack.
It's nice to know that no-one else will turn up wearing the same outfit - most vintage clothes are unique and there is no need to follow trends - vintage is about finding your own style. It doesn't even have to be a traditional 'vintage' look that you choose - you can simply slot interesting pieces into your own wardrobe.
Wearing vintage is also a great way to recycle clothing in favour of buying new and shopping in local independent shops helps keep our town high streets alive.
